The Real Housewives of New Jersey Review

The new season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey premieres on Monday, and we have two new preview clips. The first, above, introduces us to Melissa Gorga, who happens to be Teresa Giudice’s sister-in-law. She seems nice enough, but after the jump, check out a second video in which Teresa dishes the dirt.

Bravo's keeping it in the family for season 3. In the new season, Caroline Manzo, Teresa Giudice and Jacqueline Laurita will be joined by Teresa's sister-in-law, Melissa Gorga, and Teresa's first cousin, Kathy Wakile.
If the trailer below is any indication, the ladies seem to have softened up on their stance regarding strippers. Plus, look for singing, family drama, hand waving and more family drama. It'll leave you saying, "Danielle who?"
Joining 'Real Housewives of New Jersey' on Bravo's schedule are 'Million Dollar Decorators' (Tues., May 31 at 10PM), a new series following the work and personal life of a group of high-end interior decorators, and 'Rocco's Dinner Party' (Wed., June 15 at 11PM), that features three chefs competing for the chance to cater an evening for Rocco DiSpirito and his celebrity friends.

Baffling Bloated Praise for 'Bridesmaids'

I feel like I'm in some kind of modern retelling of The Emperor's New Clothes.  Why am I the only one who sees the truth here, that Bridesmaids is simply not a movie worthy of a 90% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes?

Why are the critics so afraid of saying anything negative at all about this movie?  It feels very patronizing, like, "Oh, this is a lady movie and we need to like this lady movie so all the ladies will get off our backs about never promoting or producing any lady movies.  We're throwing you a bone here, ladies (Ha ha, bone).  Now you can sit back and watch us blow shit up for the rest of the summer."

bridesmaids-movie-cast-thumb-

The film itself is not the worst thing I've ever seen.  I mean, I did see Something Borrowed last week.  Bridesmaids is definitely better than that movie, but that's kind of like saying, "Sure CSI: Miami is better than watching a chimpanzee spread his boogers over a brick wall for an hour."  Maybe that's a bad analogy.  I'm sure there's a YouTubing contingent out there who would love to watch the monkey video.

But that's kind of the problem with Bridesmaids.  It tries really, really hard to appeal to the booger-spreading-chimp-watching contingent of the population, which is fine, if that's the intention of the entire film.  But I don't think that was the initial intention of the ladies behind Bridesmaids.  All of the broad humor seems thrown in to punch up the energy of the film or whatever, but it feels forced and like it only exists to appease the lowest common denominator.

Also, Kristen Wiig's character is a mess.  What is she?  In most scenes she's a doormat who can't even keep her roommates from wearing her clothes, but then all of a sudden, while working at her sad little job, she's calling a teenager "See You Next Tuesday."  She has way too many meltdowns throughout the course of the film.  All of her pent up frustration should've been saved for the shower scene where she could finally let loose.

I enjoyed Megan, Melissa McCarthy's character, when she first introduced herself to Wiig's character, but then the film just devolved her into the stereotypical big gross over-sexualized lady.  Oooh, look at her with those giant calves hitting on a man!  Who does she think she is?

And of course there's a random unnecessary girl-on-girl smooch.  Of course there is.  You knew there would be.

So, yeah.  Girls, here's your lady movie for the year.  It's not that good or consistent.  The plot is thinner than rice paper.  It's too long, yet it ends oddly abruptly.  But it has SIX WHOLE VAGINAS in it!  Grab your lady friends, pour yourself a Cosmo, and drop your $10 on the theater like it's hot!

Mamata Banerji added to list of 13 women chief ministers

There have been 13 women chief ministers since independence, and on this Friday the 13th the list got one bigger with Mamata Banerjee joining the select list with her Trinamool Congress crushing the Left Front in West Bengal. It was also a day that saw Jayalalithaa surge back to power as chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

The 13 women chief ministers since 1947:

Sushma Swaraj: She was chief minister of Delhi from Oct 13 to Dec 3, 1998.

Sheila Dikshit: A Congress veteran, Dikshit became chief minister of Delhi in 1998 and is presently serving her third term. She was elected for a second time in 2003 and then in 2008. She is the only woman chief minister to lead a government for a third consecutive term.

Uma Bharti: She headed the Madhya Pradesh government for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from December 2003 to August 2004.

Vasundhara Raje: Belonging to the erstwhile royal Maratha Scindia family, she was chief minister of Rajasthan from 2003 to 2008 for the BJP.

TN Assembly Election 2011 Results : Jayalalithaa’s Comeback

Chennai: The fireworks that celebrated her victory outside her house in Chennai sometimes made it hard to hear Jayalalithaa, but her message, hours after she was declared the winner of the Tamil Nadu elections, was unwavering. "Wherever I went in the last three years…the people were totally disgusted with DMK and were waiting for a chance to vent their anger against the DMK government. Once they got the opportunity, they showed their anger and resentment in no uncertain terms," she said to the hundreds of people gathered, flashes of light from the fireworks streaking her face.

In the Tamil Nadu elections, voters have attached no terms and conditions to their support for Jayalalithaa and her allies – so definitive is their verdict. During her election campaign, Jayalalithaa had predicted that with her allies, she would win upwards of 185 of the 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly. She has proved that was not just political bluster. With her allies, she has won 199 of the state’s 234 assembly seats – a skyscraper of a victory in a bitterly-fought political landscape.

Party sources say the AIADMK leader was so confident of returning to power that she had booked the Madras University Centenary Hall for her swearing-in. Known for being superstitious, she has reportedly indicated that she’d like the ceremony to take place on Sunday.

It’s typical of Tamil Nadu politics that much of Jayalalithaa’s speech was devoted to a rigorous inquest of the wrongs of the DMK government that she has booted out. "Over the past five years, Tamil Nadu has been totally ruined…the economy has been ruined," she said. "It’s not an easy task to rebuild the entire state. When the house itself has been damaged and debris is strewn all around, it is not an easy task to rebuild the house."

During her campaign, Jayalalithaa referred repeatedly to the 2G scam, reminding voters with every speech and rally that it was embedded in the First Family of the DMK. Analysts agree that the scam has battered the party in the elections. One of its senior-most leaders, A Raja, is now in jail for allegedly masterminding the scam when he was Telecom Minister in 2008. Mr Karunanidhi’s daughter, M Kanimozhi, has been accused of accepting a 214-crore bribe along with Mr Raja. Tomorrow, a court in Delhi will decide whether she should go to jail.

The impact of the 2G scam on the DMK will resonate loudly at the Centre – where a series of corruption scams have dented the credibility of the ruling UPA and its leader, the Congress party. The verdict of the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu sends a loud and clear message to politicians – corruption is public’s Enemy No 1.

The DMK contested 119 seats with 63 allotted to its partner, the Congress. Together, they did not manage even 40 seats. The Congress says it does not regret sticking with the DMK to contest the elections together in Tamil Nadu. "We are loyal allies," said the Congress spokesperson, Jayanthi Natarajan.

But privately, the party is no doubt rewinding to an offer made by Jayalalithaa when Mr Raja was sent to jail. She said that if the Congress expelled the DMK and its 18 MPs from the central government, she would step in as a replacement. The Congress had refused the invitation.
