Hurricane Irene Evacuations For Ocean City, Maryland

OCEAN CITY, Md. — With Hurricane Irene taking aim at the Maryland shore, officials ordered thousands of residents and visitors to leave Ocean City while Gov. Martin O'Malley warned of the dangers of the "monster" storm.

O'Malley declared a state of emergency Thursday. He warned state residents to prepare for what he called a large, deadly and "slow-moving hurricane that is bearing down on the state of Maryland."

The governor said Irene's epicenter is expected to arrive off the coast of Ocean City, with the eye wall possibly even over the beach community by 2 a.m. Sunday.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan said Thursday there were probably about 125,000 to 150,000 people in Ocean City. The city has about 7,000 residents.

Meehan said the last time Ocean City ordered an evacuation was in 1985 for Hurricane Gloria.

Tunnel is closed 10th Smart Buoy Deployed in Chesapeake bay bridge

AXYS Technologies Inc. (AXYS) announced the deployment of the tenth ‘smart buoy’ into the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS). The 1.7m diameter AXYS WatchKeeper buoy was deployed August 17th, by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel near Virginia Beach. It transmits near real-time data on winds, air and water temperature, barometric pressure, waves, currents, and water quality. This data is used by weather forecasters, maritime safety personnel, coastal decision-makers, and recreational boaters and fishermen. Scientists and educators also use data from the buoys in the curriculum for innovative online activities that bring the science of the Chesapeake Bay to life.

This weekend, as we watch and hope that Hurricane Irene does not do a lot of damage up and down the East Coast of the United States, I start thinking of the hurricane names for this year. We are here in August 2011 and we already are on Hurricane Irene, the ninth name and the 9th tropical storm of the year. In prior years, I remember Hurricane Fay and a few others that contained names long before the letter I of the alphabet.

HP tablet withdrawn after 4 days hp, hp touchpad review, hp touchpad $99|

HP’s Website, along with Amazon, continues to sell the HP TouchPad, despite announcing the tablet’s ignoble death.
Hewlett-Packard’s Website is still selling the HP TouchPad, the webOS tablet it has condemned to history’s dustbin of dead tech.

Those interested in purchasing a piece of future geek trivia can find the 16GB and 32GB versions on HP’s official shopping page for $399.99 and $499.99, respectively. Another HP page sings the virtues of webOS, complete with text claiming it’s “the smartest OS ever created.” For the moment, the tablet is also available on Amazon.

THE much awaited HP TouchPad tablet was withdrawn from the Australian market today just 4 days after its launch, making it one of the shortest-lived electronics products in Australian history.

Retailer Harvey Norman, which sold the HP TouchPad tablet exclusively, said it had instructed franchises to remove all stocks from shelves and to contact customers who had bought it and offer them a full refund or credit for another purchase.

The HP TouchPad’s dramatic demise in Australia is the result of HP’s decision in the United States yesterday to axe it and smartphones powered by its in-house webOS mobile operating system, after astonishingly poor sales since its United States launch in July.

The problem for the Palo Alto, California-based tech company was that webOS was neither Apple nor Android. It was a mobile operating system HP acquired when it bought smartphone manufacturer Palm for $1.2 billion last year.

With relatively few apps available for download, and several exhibiting serious bugs, many commentators believed the HP TouchPad was doomed from the start.

Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) second seasons to kick start in January 2012

CCL Second Season is already making news. We hear that the Celebrity Cricket League will be getting more serious with cricket with the second season which is to Kick start by January 2012.

We hear that Salman Khan who was not playing for Mumbai Heroes in CCL first season is planning to play for the second second for his team. The second season will also include two more teams Kerala Super Stars, owned by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan’s wife Lizzy, and Bengal Tigers owned by producer Boney Kapoor.
The details of the second season was announced in the city recently. Reports emanating from Mumbai say that Bollywood’s leading starlet Vidya Balan has been ‘secretly married’ to her long time boyfriend Siddharth Roy Kapoor of the popular UTV group at an ‘undisclosed’ location. Known as the country’s commercial capital, Mumbai is also the headquarters of Bollywood, the world of Hindi films.

One of the most talented actresses of her generation, Vidya Balan is starring in a couple of challenging films at present. One of them is ‘The Dirrty Picture’, a film based on the life of Kollywood’s late sexy siren and the perennial item girl ‘Silk’ Smitha. The film is being directed by Milan Luthria; the other film Vidya has on hand is ‘Kahaani’, said to be a powerful script.
