Anna University was established on 4th Sept 1978. It was set up as a unitary type of University. Higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences is offered by the University. The University was come into existence by bringing together 2 well-known technical institutions in Madras. UGC have accredited the University with 5 Star Status in the year 2002.
The University is situated in the southern part of Madras (Chennai). The University fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities. It is also promoting research and disseminating knowledge. Its main campus extends over 100 hectares. In 2001, the university has become a large, highly renowned Affiliated University with 426 Self-financing Engineering Colleges, 6 govt. Colleges and 3 govt-aided Engineering colleges located Tamilnadu.
The Anna University is a member of the AIU, the ACU and Partner of UNESCO International Center for Engineering Education (UICEE).
