The most eligible bachelor of Tamil cinema Karthi Shivakumar is all set to enter wedlock. He will marry one Ranjani, a MA English literature graduate and daughter of Erode Chinnaswamy and Jothi Meenakshi, on 3 July.

The wedding is arranged by elders of the family. Ranjani was a student of Stella Maris College. Karthi, an engineering graduate had made it big in tamil cinema acting in blockbusters like Paruthi Veeran, Nan Mahan Alla, Siruthai and Ayirathil Oruvan.
It may be recalled that Suriya, Karthi's elder brother was married to actress Jothika and they have two children.

What has seemed to be an unusually active spring severe weather season will produce one more episode of severe weather over the next 24 hours.  We will once again see multiple rounds of severe storms (hopefully not continuously) beginning later this afternoon/evening into the overnight hours and through Wednesday morning.  Unfortunately, this event could be one of the more significant of all of the storms the metro area has experienced in some time.
As of 11:30am, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has upgraded the Memphis metro area from a Moderate Risk to a rare High Risk.  The High Risk extends from northeast of the metro area southwest across southern AR (see map below).  A High Risk is generally only issued when there is a magnitude of certainty that strong, long-tracked tornadoes or very strong wind that will produce widespread damage will develop within the risk area.  The threat levels for all severe weather parameters are shown at the end of this post.

As far as how we expect this event to play out, storms will begin to develop over southern AR by late afternoon and move/develop quickly east and northeast towards the metro area this evening. Supercell thunderstorms are possible in the area after 5pm with an enhanced threat during the late evening hours - say from 8pm to midnight.  Any storms that form could produce damaging straight line wind, hail, and tornadoes.  As SPC indicates, there is uncertainty with the downstream development of the storms in AR during the evening. They could remain supercellular, which would heighten the tornado threat, or they could coalesce into a squall line that would heighten the damaging wind threat.

By morning, the developing low pressure responsible for all of this severe weather will be moving across northeast AR into the mid-Mississippi Valley and will probably bring one more round of severe storms during the post-dawn hours, or sometime between 7-11am.  Another squall line is probably a good bet, though there will be enough wind shear to produce tornadoes as well.  The back edge of the rain and storms should be moving out around the lunch hour on Wednesday with much more pleasant weather in store for Thursday and Friday!
The final threat to mention is not the least and cannot be overstated.  The ground is already saturated.  All of these storms will have very heavy rain, which could be prolonged.  Flash flooding is a serious threat and is exacerbated at night when it is difficult to impossible to gauge the depth of moving water.  Do NOT cross flooded areas by foot or in your vehicle.  Twelve inches of moving water is enough to sweep a large vehicle off the road into a rushing culvert and you can't be sure the road you want to drive across has been washed out under the flowing water. "Turn Around, Don't Drown" is the message.

Queen Elizabeth II Marks 85th Birthday wishes

Queen Elizabeth II born April 21, 1926 is Queen of the the United Kingdom, She is head of the Commonwealth and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.The sovereign's birthday coincided with Maundy Thursday, the day marking Jesus' Last Supper, when the queen traditionally gives special coins to as many men and as many women as the years of her life.

So this year 85 men and 85 women received two coin purses during the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

The red one contained a 5 pound ($8) coin commemorating the 90th birthday of her husband Prince Philip and a 50 pence coin marking the 2012 London Olympic Games. The white one held specially minted Maundy Money of one, two three and four pence pieces, adding up to a total of 85 pence.

Good Friday Sports, Football Match

Will there be any Good Friday sports or football match you can watch somewhere? Not in my place of the world. Most, if not all, are on Lenten breaks. No badminton, no basketball, and certainly no football. There will be no sports on TV that day.

But hey, in Australia, there were plans to put football in the calendar for a Good Friday match. These made lots of Christian churches fuming mad. According to reports, Catholic spokesman Bishop Christopher Prowse said: “Good Friday is a day like no other for the vast majority of Victorians who are Christians and even for those who are not. It’s a time to reflect on deeper issues and on our ultimate destiny. Sport should serve humanity and society, not the other way around. This is making sport itself into a religion.”

Though that statement was made a couple of years ago, it is still true today. Are you thinking of playing sports on Good Friday? Do you think this is the same as people going to the beach on Good Friday or just staying at home watching movies all day forgetting what the Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross more than 2,000 years ago? For some, Sports is an alternative as they never really have anything to reflect on that day.

I remember my grandmother saying, “Never go near the beach on Good Friday. Sharks will prowl the shoreline and snatch those swimming even in shallow waters. And never ever do anything that will bruise or injure you. It will take another Good Friday for your injury to heal”

So, those wanting to play sports on Good Friday, please avoid any injuries. Those watching from home, is it really a good time to do just that. As for me, I will go somewhere and ponder on what my Savior did for me. This is a time for reflection.

Playback Singer Chitra's Daughter Nandana Death

Famous playback singer Chitra's 8-year-old daughter Nandana expired drowning in a swimming pool today morning. Chitra is in Dubai with her singing troupe and family members on an official tour in Arab Emirates. According to sources,"They are residing in a villa at Emirate Hills. The young girl who was playing besides the swimming pool fell into it and drowned away. Somebody besides them immediately pulled Nandana out from water and rushed to a hospital in Jebel Ali. By then it was all over as she is already dead".

Chitra had been to Dubai alongwith her family to perform in A.R. Rahman's music show and was staying in a villa there when the accident happened.

Nadana, a differently-abled child, fell into the pool while playing.

She was born to Chitra and Vijayashankar in 2002, 15 years after their marriage.

A devotee of Hindu god Krishna, Chitra had named her daughter after she got an award from the Kerala government for her song in the Malayalam movie "Nandanam".

"It is very sad to hear. Chitra is such a humble person. Despite winning several awards and being a celebrity she does not have any airs," a media professional told IANS.

Playback singers S.P. Balasubramaniam, P. Susheela, Janaki, Mano and many others visited Chitra's home to pay their condolences.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Hospitalized for Bipolar Disorder, Mental health Treatment

Catherine Zeta-Jones has reportedly entered a mental health treatment center for a bipolar disorder ... despite her rep squarely denying the story to TMZ. Just three months after Michael Douglas told “Today’s” Matt Lauer, “I’ve got (cancer) beat,” his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, has checked herself into a mental health facility.

The actress, who has been by Douglas’ side since he was diagnosed with throat cancer last fall, is seeking treatment for bipolar II disorder, her rep confirms to CNN. causes irritability and mood swings occurring as often as several times a day, or as seldom as a few times a year.

One of Catherine's reps now tells  "After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar Disorder." We're told Catherine had been in Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut for treatment, but she has checked out.

Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian President, Detained For Investigation

The announcement was the latest in a dramatic series of events surrounding the probes against top former regime officials, and came just hours after former President Hosni Mubarak, 82, was hospitalized with heart problems in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Since Mubarak's ouster on Feb. 11 on a wave of popular protests, Egyptians have been calling for the investigation of their longtime ruler along with that of many members of his government.

A statement from the prosecutor general's office announcing Mubarak's detention was posted on the social networking site Facebook early Wednesday. It said the ongoing investigation was into was into allegations of corruption, the squandering of public funds, and the abuse of authority for personal gain.

"The prosecutor general orders the detention of former President Hosni Mubarak and his sons Gamal and Alaa for 15 days pending investigation after the prosecutor general presented them with the current state of its ongoing investigations," it read.

Just hours earlier, a separate announcement said the ex-president's two sons were being questioned and detained. It is believed Mubarak will remain in the hospital for his detention.

Most of the top officials of Mubarak's regime are now being investigated on allegations of corruption and abuse of authority.

The Facebook page was set up as an outreach from the Justice Ministry to the families of those killed and injured during the 18 days of protests that ousted Mubarak in mid-February.

While the ex-president was in the hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, where he has been living since being removed from power, his sons were taken for questioning to the nearby courthouse by prosecutors from Cairo.

NCW orders inquiry into Noida sisters case

The National Commission for Women (NCW) Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the case in which two sisters had locked themselves in their Noida house and starved for seven months.

Anuradha and Sonalika Behl were rescued by Noida Police Tuesday. They had locked themselves up in their house No.326 in the posh Sector-29 for seven months. On Wednesday morning, the older sister, Anuradha, died in hospital, due to malnutrition, leading to multiple organ failure.

According to a statement issued by the ministry of women and child development, NCW chairperson Yasmeen Abrar "has ordered an inquiry into the report of the self imposed confinement of NOIDA Behl sisters and their condition".

The Noida adminisration Wednesdday ordered an inquiry into the case.

The two sisters had shut themselves up in their house No.326 in the posh Sector-29 for seven months. They had been depressed after the death of their father Colonel (retired) O.P. Behl, police said.

Despite missing the "early 2011" release window, Sega tells Joystiq that the rhythm 'n' reeling pair will still become available as downloadable games at a later stage.

"Space Channel 5 Part 2 and SEGA Bass Fishing are definitely coming to XBLA and PSN, look for them sometime in late summer," Sega brand manager Ben Harborne told us.
Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are already available on both services for $10 each, and all four games can be bought individually on Steam for $8.99 apiece. Japanese Nuclear: Neil Armstrong Middle School group to cancel South Korea trip

Organizers of Neil Armstrong Middle School's annual student trip to South Korea have monitored the country's political climate for months, and hoped tensions with North Korea wouldn't force them to cancel the trip.

The Oregonian’s continuing coverage of the damage caused by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.Chester Browning, director of Neil Armstrong's Korea Studies Program, sent a letter to Forest Grove School District staff on Friday, explaining parents' decision to cancel the trip.
The group of 17 students had spent months fundraising and attending after school classes to prepare for the visit.
But after the March 11 earthquake, safety became a concern. South Korea is currently safe for travel, but concerns that radiation from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant could spread to South Korea spurred the cancellation.
Browning met with parents,   
Potter said district officials are hopeful students will be refunded for most or all of the $1,575 program fee. The trip has been a Neil Armstrong tradition for many years, Potter said. It has only been canceled one other time, immediately after the Iraq war broke out.
"I have met one-on-one with some of the students, and, while they expressed their deep disappointment, they do understand the reasons behind the decision," Browning said in the letter to staff. "We'll just have to hope everything calms down around the world, and we'll try again next year!"

Hunt for Long Island Serial Killer, Search Presses On In New York

OAK BEACH, N.Y. -- While investigators scour miles of desolate New York beachfront from the tops of fire trucks and map plans for officers to traverse a daunting morass of thicket on horseback in search of more victims, dozens of detectives are inspecting credit card receipts, telephone records, old traffic tickets and even applications for clamming licenses in the hunt for a possible serial killer.

Eight victims have now been found dumped just steps from Ocean Parkway, a highway leading to the popular Jones Beach State Park. The news has rattled nerves throughout Long Island; one mother snapped at a stranger outside a public library about fears for her safety and schoolteachers say they are sensing fear in the voices of their students.

"Whether they're prostitutes or not, we don't care about that in our community," said Jose Trinidad of Bay Shore, a community just north of the Robert Moses Bridge, about five miles from where the bodies were found. "We care that there's a murderer loose out there and he's killing human beings. He could kill somebody else."

Fifth-grade teacher Bridget Borland says the startling news has trickled down to her students.

"It's just concerning them," she said. "When they talk about it they joke, but they're really concerned. I hope this is the end, that there are no more bodies. It's sad for the families."

Investigators following up on the disappearance of a Jersey City, N.J., woman seen working as a Craigslist escort in the area last spring, happened upon the corpses of four women late last year. They were identified as missing prostitutes who also booked clients over the Internet. Four more bodies were found when officers returned to the area in the past two weeks; they have yet to be identified, even by gender. All eight were found within a three-mile radius on the north side of the parkway.

Chennai, Wednesday, April 06, 2011: Popular South-Indian actress Sujatha died here today at her residence in Chennai. She was 58. She has acted in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi films.

 Sujatha has become popular in Telugu with Gorintaku and Guppedu Manasu films. The actress has shared screen beside many great actors such as NTR, ANR, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Shobhan Babu, Krishna etc.

Some of her noted films include Edantstula Meda, Circus Ramudu  Prema Tarangalu, Bebbuli, Bahadurapu Batasari, Gurusishyulu, Sandhya, Suthradarulu, etc. She has also made her appearance in Nagarjuna’s Sri Rama Dasu in a vital role, which is also her last Tollywood film. The film-industry expressed their shock on the sudden demise of the actress.

Sujatha was suffering from illness for quite some time. She is a native of Maradu in Ernakulam. She has acted in all the south Indian languages and was known for her elegant and at the same time strong portrayal of her roles.

Office Of Personnel Management | Government Shutdown does occur

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a statement addressing what a government shutdown would mean for federal employees should lawmakers fail to reach a budget agreement ahead of a Friday deadline.
"The President has made it clear that he does not want a government shutdown, and the Administration is willing and ready to work day and night to find a solution that all sides can agree with," the statement said. "That said, given the realities of the calendar, prudent management requires we plan for an orderly shutdown should the negotiations not be completed by the end of the current continuing resolution."
OPM explains that if a shutdown does occur, departments and agencies on the federal level would be required to comply with contingency plans distinguishing operations that must be stopped from those which would be allowed to continue.
If the current continuing resolution expires at 12:01 a.m. on April 9, 2011 without passage of an FY 2011 appropriations bill or a further continuing resolution, Federal departments and agencies will be required to execute contingency plans for a lapse in appropriations (more commonly referred to as a "shutdown"). These contingency plans detail which agency activities are allowed by law to continue to operate, and which activities must stop. Employees whose salaries are funded through annual appropriations will not be able to work and will be furloughed, unless their duties qualify under the law as "excepted" to continue to work during periods of lapsed appropriations. During a shutdown, non-excepted employees are not permitted to work as unpaid volunteers for the government.  Any paid leave (annual, sick, court, etc.) approved for use during the furlough period must be cancelled.  An excepted employee who is absent from duty during the shutdown must be furloughed during such an absence. 

Election Commission ordered govt for 150 IRS officers for Election Duty

NEW DELHI: Election Commission today ordered the transfer of the Returning Officer of  five states – Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, Kerala and West Bengal – set to go to polls over the next one year, the Election Commission has asked the finance ministry to provide at least 150 Indian Revenue Service  (IRS) officers to be deputed as election observers to keep watch on poll expenditure of candidates and ensure free and fair polls.
The EC communication also for the first time formally expressed its desire to complete the electoral process in these states by the first quarter of next year. The EC also asked the ministry to ensure that all IRS officers deputed should be taint free and not the ones who were drafted by the government in the recent past as election observers. These observers will be selected from 1983 to 2005 batches.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has agreed to spare five officers each from Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kochi, Pune, Guwahati and Nagpur while 10 officers each will be provided from other charges. Officers involved in investigation and time-barred sensitive assessment cases have been kept out of this process.

While a huge number of devotees from India and abroad prayed for his speedy recovery and well-being, the health condition of godman Sri Satya Saibaba continued to be critical on Sunday though the doctors attending on him claimed that he was stable.

“Saibaba is on ventilator. Dialysis was done to assist his kidney function,” said A N Safaya, director, Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences. He said Baba’s respiration had improved since morning. Following serious lung and chest congestion, Saibaba was put on ventilator. “His response to the treatment is satisfactory,” doctors said. The 85-year-old Saibaba was admitted to Satyasai super-speciality hospital here on March 28 following pneumonia and respiratory problems.
Currently Sri Satya Saibaba is on ventilator support for assisting respiration and his response to the treatment is satisfactory, doctors attending on him said today.

In a letter to vice-chancellor of the University, Prof V G Talwar, Tendulkar's wife Anjali Tendulkar thanked him for proposing to honour her husband with an honorary doctorate degree but said the champion batsman has decided not to accept honorary doctorates while being active in cricket.
